The field will be closed for a Model Aviation and STEM Day event that will be held at the field on Saturday, June 1, 9:00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. The purpose of the event is to get more young people that are in middle school (grades 6, 7, and 8) involved with model aviation and to learn STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) principals that apply to model airplanes. The event will consist of ground school, using a flight simulator like Real Flight, flying a model airplane with an instructor using a buddy box and using a virtual reality type of flight simulator. Free lunch will be served and one student will win a free Apprentice electric model airplane by drawing.
For this year, the event has been coordinated with the Museum of Flight and only students associated with the museum will be able to register and participate. Attendance has been limited to 20 students and each student may bring a guest. Several museum personnel may attend and they will be considered guests. At the museum’s request, other people may watch the event.
A MAR/C team of about 20 members is being assembled to conduct the event and most members have already been identified. An area that needs support is a virtual reality type of flight simulator. If anyone has this type of equipment and would support the event, please contact Mike Powell. It would be nice to have 2 or 3 setups at the field. Also a projector is needed for the ground school PowerPoint presentation.
Free lunch will be served to the students, guests and MAR/C team members. Any MAR/C member may watch the event. Questions may be directed to Mike Powell (firstname.lastname@example.org).
